Walsall have confirmed they have turned down a £200,000 bid from Scunthorpe for defender Anthony Gerrard.

The 22-year-old, who is the cousin of England star Steven Gerrard, is one of the most highly-rated players in the Football League and has reportedly been attracting interest from a number of clubs. Iron boss Nigel Adkins is the first to make a move for Gerrard this summer but the League One Saddlers are demanding more money.

A club statement read: "Walsall Football Club can today (Thursday) confirm that a £200,000 written offer from Scunthorpe United for Anthony Gerrard has been rejected as it does not meet our valuation of a player who is attracting plenty of interest from elsewhere."

Gerrard is currently on the transfer list at his own request and was the subject of a failed bid from Southampton last summer.
