Gillingham are expected to be without loan signing Rene Howe and Tristan Plummer for the clash with fellow strugglers Tranmere.

Striker Howe missed Saturday's 4-0 thrashing at Brentford after taking a knock to his hip in training last Friday and boss Mark Stimson will leave it to the player to decide whether he is ready to return.

Winger Plummer will definitely not be fit after twisting his ankle on Friday.

Stimson is likely to make several changes to his starting line-up following the defeat on Saturday which left him "devastated".

The Kent club are without a win in their last eight games and are level on points with fourth-bottom Brighton.

Curtis Weston is set to return in midfield after being rested against the Bees, while Danny Jackman, Dennis Oli and Mark McCammon are pushing for recalls.

Simon King (ankle), Garry Richards (conjunctivitis) and Jacob Erskine (ankle) are all unavailable.

Tranmere boss Les Parry is boosted by the return of first-choice left-back Zoumana Bakayogo.

Bakayogo was suspended for Saturday`s 1-0 home defeat to Oldham, with Aaron Cresswell deputising.

Cresswell impressed against the Latics but tired in the second half and Parry admitted he is considering recalling Bakayogo.

Parry, who is also pondering a change in formation, could hand on-loan Watford striker Marvin Sordell a starting role after he impressed as a substitute against Oldham.

He will assess Gareth Edds (shoulder), Craig Curran (foot) and Ian Goodison (foot) after they sustained knocks at the weekend.

Striker Bas Savage remains sidelined as he recovers from a 10-month lay-off with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
