"miles apart" in negotiations...

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has warned goalkeeper Simon Royce that the club will not be making him an improved contract offer.

The veteran stopper was offered a new deal in the week after he helped the Gills secure an instant return to League One, but went away on holiday earlier this month after claiming that the two parties were "miles apart" in negotiations. Royce, 37, returns from his break this week but Stimson insists he is not prepared to put an improved deal on the table for him to stay.

Stimson told KentOnline: "We can't do any more than we have. We've put an offer in that we feel is realistic and affordable - it's our final offer."

Meanwhile, the club's clash with Southend at Roots Hall has been brought forward a day to Friday October 30 at the request of Essex Police.
