Gradi backing Ashton to make grade

Crewe manager Dario Gradi has no doubts his latest protégé Dean Ashton can make the step up to the Barclays Premiership as the striker thrashes out personal details on a contract with Norwich.A fee, believed to be in the region of £2million, was accepted late on Thursday evening and the Championship´s leading scorer spent yesterday going over details of the proposed deal at Carrow Road. The highly-rated Ashton has scored 20 goals this season and Canaries boss Nigel Worthington hopes the 21-year-old will provide the firepower to secure Barclays Premiership safety for his side.Worthington had expressed doubts his club would be able to afford the player, but Crewe accepted the offer without hesitation and Alex manager Gradi, while reluctant to let someone as prolific as Ashton leave, believes he can be a success in the top flight.
