Brighton midfielder Gary Hart has signed a new one-year contract with the League One side.

The 2009/10 campaign will be Hart's 12th season with the Seagulls and the 32-year-old is hoping to remain injury-free this time around following last term's knee problem.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to get another year," he told the club's official website. "At Christmas I was beginning to look around for new clubs. I had hardly played and things weren't looking good.

"But the new manager [Russell Slade] came in just around the time that I was getting fit. He came and saw me play a few times in the reserves and suddenly I had a chance and fortunately I grabbed it with both hands.

"I'm really excited about the new season. I've been going into the training ground and doing bits and pieces on my own because I can't stand just doing nothing.

"I'm going away for a couple of weeks now to relax and then I'll get straight back into it when I get back, ready to come back at the end of June. This will be my first pre-season for a long time that I'm not carrying any injuries and I just can't wait to get going."
