Barnet boss Ian Hendon has strengthened his squad with the double signing of Paul Furlong and Tommy Black.

Furlong, 40, who has commanded more than £4million in transfer fees, has joined on loan from League One Southend while Black - released by the Shrimpers at the end of last season - has signed a short-term contract.

Hendon told the club's official website: "I am very grateful to Southend manager Steve Tilson for his friendly gesture in facilitating the move. I have seen a lot of Paul and be brings the experience and know-how to the side I want."

He added: "Tommy is grateful for the opportunity to join us and prove himself. This is a coup for the club to get a player like him.

"We have a very young side and these signings are being brought in because of their experience."
