Sheffield Wednesday have rejected a bid from Barnsley for defender Mark Beevers, according to Tykes boss Keith Hill.

The 21-year-old Owls academy product has one year remaining on his contract at Hillsborough.

Hill received a firm no after enquiring about the player and will now pursue other targets.

He told The Star: "We made an offer to Sheffield Wednesday, but they came back with a straight 'no'.

"Mark Beevers is a very talented player and someone I'd love to sign. He's a skilful player and still developing, but unfortunately it doesn`t look like we're going to be able to do a deal and it looks like he'll be a Sheffield Wednesday player next season.

"I'm disappointed but, at the same time, at least we got a 100 per cent 'no', which means I can move and try and find other players. That's business and you have to move on."
