In-form Leyton Orient gained their 10th point from four games and ran up their biggest score of the season as they continued their climb away from the drop zone with a 5-0 win over Bristol Rovers.

Orient had much the better of the first half and went ahead when captain and full-back Stephen Purches advanced down the right and his shot took a significant deflection off Byron Anthony to elude keeper Mikkel Andersen after 26 minutes.

Rovers' only threat before the break came from midfielder Wayne Brown, making his debut on loan from Fulham, but his shot went straight to Orient keeper Jamie Jones.

Rovers' keeper Andersen had to receive lengthy treatment just before the interval when he mishandled a shot and suffered a head injury in diving to retrieve the ball.

Orient went two up seven minutes after the break when Rovers failed to clear a cross from the right and striker Ryan Jarvis fired home a low drive.

A foul by Rovers' defender Danny Coles was punished with a penalty after 63 minutes and Scott McGleish added Orient's third, although the goal was accredited against Andersen as the ball rebounded off the post and in off the back of his head.

Jason Demetriou was left totally unmarked to escape on a 45-yard run and beat Andersen in a one-on-one after 71 minutes, before sub Jonathan Tehoue met Sean Thornton's 87th-minute free-kick to complete the rout.
