Danny Jackman has completed a move back to Gillingham after the League One club agreed an undisclosed fee with Northampton.

The 26-year-old left-sided player, who spent two seasons at Priestfield before joining the Cobblers in May 2007, handed in a transfer request three weeks ago and has yet to feature for Stuart Gray's side this season.

Gills boss Mark Stimson told the club's official website: "Danny will be a really good signing for us as I know he did well at the club before and the supporters appreciated his work ethic."

He added: "Whenever he has played against a team of mine he has always stood out and as a natural left-footer I believe Danny will bring good balance to the midfield."

Northampton chairman David Cardoza said: "The money that has come in will allow Stuart (Gray) to strengthen the squad.

"It is a shame that Danny has moved on in this way because he deservedly won the player of the year award for two years in succession but it was clear - with what has happened in the last few weeks - that his time here was at an end."
