STAR OF THE WEEKEND

Graham Kavanagh – Carlisle United

The former Stoke and Republic of Ireland star has come in for some criticism on occasions this season but rolled back the years with a vintage performance against Charlton. He scored two stunning goals that opposition manager Phil Parkinson drooling at his ‘Premier League quality’.

Bournemouth 0-4 Rochdale

Keith Hill’s side turned in a tremendous performance to upset the league leaders on their own patch and smash home four goals. Rochdale have missed out in the play-offs for the past two seasons but this year might finally be their time despite losing the goals of Adam Le Fondre to Rotherham.

GOAL OF THE WEEKEND

Scott Davies – Wycombe Wanderers

The on-loan midfielder scored two fantastic goals for Wycombe who still fell to defeat against Walsall. However, his first – an audacious 40-yard free-kick that lobbed Clayton Ince – was pure genius.

CONTROVERSIAL MOMENT OF THE WEEKEND

Phil Parkinson is sent to the stands after losing his cool following a controversial penalty awarded to Carlisle in their 3-1 win over Charlton.

He said: “We were beaten by a debatable penalty and two fantastic finishes. I was annoyed and lost my cool which is not good. The referee said there was a push but he almost had his mind made up before the ball came into the box.”

SHOCK OF THE WEEKEND

Russell Slade dismissed by Brighton

Russell Slade is no longer manager of Brighton and Hove Albion after just eight months at the helm. He saved Albion from the drop last season after arriving in March but a close season spending spree expectations were high at the Withdean Stadium. However, Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Hartlepool left them just one place above the drop zone and chairman Tony Bloom relieved him of his duties.
