Leeds' Rui Marques will not be offered a new contract at the club.
The defender, 32, whose current deal expires at the end of June, has been at Elland Road club five years but in a meeting with manager Simon Grayson was told he was surplus to requirements.
The Angolan international told the Yorkshire Post: "I had a meeting with the manager and he told me that they wouldn't be offering me a new contract."
Marques, whose exit signals the start of United's squad changes in preparation for the Championship, was not surprised by the snub having made only six first-team appearances in the Whites' promotion-winning season but he is hoping to stay in England and gain a deal with a team in the second tier.
He added: "It's a shame because I've had a really good time at Leeds, but I've got to think now about finding a club. I'd like to stay in England if possible I'm going to try and make my agent find me a Championship club. I feel I'm good enough for that.
"This season hasn't been great for me, a frustration really. It's not a surprise to be going but it's disappointing."
