Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson has revealed the club recently turned down a bid from local rivals Barnsley for Mark Beevers.
The Tykes had been in the market for a replacement for Jason Shackell after the centre-half joined Derby in a deal thought to be in the region of £1million.
However, Megson is determined to keep Beevers at Hillsborough and believes the 21-year-old will eventually command the type of fee Barnsley received for Shackell.
"Mark is part of the plans here," Megson told the Sheffield Star. "He's a good young player. He was starting to show something like what he can do before he was injured.
"There was a bid from Barnsley. We turned it down. I think he has the potential to be as good as the defender they sold for £1million."
Beevers has made almost 150 appearances for the Owls but missed the end of last season after suffering a fractured cheekbone.
