Stockport's administrators Leonard Curtis insist the crisis-torn League One outfit could yet be sold to the Melrose consortium.

The Hatters suffered a blow earlier this month when the consortium, led by former Manchester City player Jim Melrose, had a bid to buy the club rejected by the Football League.

County's administrators said: "A statement was made in the media recently which claimed that the Melrose Consortium failed the Football League's fit and proper test. We would like to clarify that this statement was not issued by Leonard Curtis or by the Football League and the Melrose Consortium are continuing to progress their interest."

"We have received a number of other enquiries, however, and are still actively seeking interest for the club in order to maximise the prospects of concluding a sale."
