Millwall´s friendly against Iran has been called off in the interest of public safety after the club received what it called "intelligence...from a number of sources".

There had been fears the July 30 match would be the target for far-right groups following the bombings in London by Islamist terrorists, as Iran is an overwhelmingly Muslim country.

Millwall and the Iranian Football Federation issued the following joint public statement: "It is regrettable we have had to take this decision, but based on the intelligence we received from a number of sources, we reached the conclusion that we have a joint moral responsibility not to compromise the safety of fans wishing to attend the game."
