Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore admitted he was relieved after his side overcame the `Joe Royle factor' to beat Oldham 2-0 at Boundary Park.
Goals from Charlie Barnett and Ian Moore ensured it would be an unhappy return for Latics boss Royle, and former Oldham manager Moore was quick to take a swipe at the club's hierarchy.
Moore said: "I was worried about the Joe factor and there was all that reminiscing about what he achieved here before, but this is 2009 and people should remember that."
He added: "There's no doubt Joe did magnificent things, but times change and it's a pity Oldham's supporters don't change with them.
"I got some stick, as I always do. It's a love-hate relationship - I love them, they hate me.
"Maybe they don't like me because I did a good job and kept them up a few years ago. Now John Sheridan has been sacked after being in the top six all season. It makes you wonder if Oldham want a successful manager."
