Norwich City's rollercoaster start to the season continued as they thrashed Wycombe 5-2, ensuring new boss Paul Lambert enjoyed a successful start to his campaign.

It also lifted the Canaries to 19th, but Lambert isn’t getting carried away.

“I'm delighted for the players and I'm delighted for the fans," said Lambert.

"The club was hurting a lot after what happened on the opening day of the season and hopefully we have given everyone something to smile about.

"I would have taken 1-0 beforehand - that would have done me fine - so it was a very satisfying result.

"This club has got a lot going for it - terrific facilities and a wonderful fan base - and we just need to get the team up and running again. This was the first step and we will be doing all we can to turn things around."

Lambert also singled out Grant Holt for praise after his newly installed captain grabbed two goals. "Holt is a proper player – that's for sure.

"He came in this morning with his face a little swollen – I think it's his wisdom teeth that are giving him some problems. But if keeps playing like that, then I hope he keeps having problems with his teeth."
