The Football League have stated they will not comment on reports casting doubt on the ownership of Leeds.
The club's chairman Ken Bates, according to reports in the Guardian, has admitted he made "an error" in January in saying that he jointly owned the club and that it is "not correct".
Bates had previously told the same court in Jersey that he and his long-term financial adviser, Patrick Murrin, each held "management shares" in Forward Sports Fund, the company which owns Leeds.
Reports suggest that there are "10,000 participating shares in Forward", and their identity can only be revealed under a court order.
This has cast doubt over the application of the "fit and proper persons test" when the Bates led the takeover of Leeds in 2005 and 2007 with the League's regulations requiring anybody owning 30% or more of its shares to undergo such tests.
But the Football League confirmed this morning that they would not be commenting at this stage.
