Alan Pardew is hoping Southampton can continue to climb the table after they moved off the bottom of League One with a 3-1 win over Oldham.

Saints kicked off the season on minus 10 points but punished an error-prone Oldham performance at Boundary Park with goals from Dean Hammond, Rickie Lambert and David Connolly.

"Starting with minus 10 was a big psychological barrier but since we broke through zero, we've won three out of three," said Pardew.

"The next target is to move out of the relegation zone and I`m not looking any further than that because we are still making errors as a team.

"They are mistakes I would not want to see from a side chasing promotion so there is work to do but I`m pleased at the moment."

He continued: "Oldham are one of the better teams we have played in terms of organisation and work-rate. They put us under pressure and it was frustrating that we let them back into it at 2-1 but this is a good result."
