Southampton captain Kelvin Davis believes the club has appointed a manager of 'real pedigree' in Alan Pardew.
The former Reading, West Ham and Charlton boss signed a three-year deal with the League One club this week. Pardew will watch Saints' friendly against Ajax at St Mary's on Saturday - his 48th birthday - and take his first training session on Monday.
"My initial thoughts are that it is fantastic news. He's a manager with real pedigree - he's been there and done it before," the 32-year-old told the Daily Echo. "I should think that he's going to be hungry to succeed and he's going to fit into the style of football that Southampton are used to - he's used to being a winner and that's what we need."
