Southampton manager Alan Pardew was disappointed his side failed to take all three points against Leyton Orient after a 2-2 draw.
Orient centre-back Tamika Mkandawire rose to a cross by winger JJ Melligan and headed the Londoners into an almost instant lead which was later doubled by Neal Trotman's own goal. But Rickie Lambert's brace pulled the Saints level and Pardew was left to wonder what might have been after his side missed a host of scoring opportunities.
"No draw is as good as a win. Considering the number of chances we created it was unbelievable that there were no goals on the scoreboard," said Pardew.
"We were hit by a bit of a sucker punch at the start of the game. Orient made it really hard for us. They defended with their lives and we kept banging away until we finally got a breakthrough and once that went in it looked as if we could go on and win it.
"We got a second goal but just ran out of time and the clock defeated us. It was a cracking game. You would be pleased to pay your money and watch that at Premier League level."
