Jordan Rhodes is on fire at present, and quickly earning himself cult hero status at Huddersfield Town as he's banging in goals for the Terriers.
The 19-year-old, who won the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year for League Two last season, was snapped up by Lee Clark on the eve of this season after he was allowed to leave
Ipswich by Roy Keane.
And it has proved to be a shrewd piece of business as
Rhodes has already bagged five goals in his first three games for
Town, including a brace in Saturday’s 3-1 home win over
Southampton.
Expectations are high in Yorkshire of a push for promotion this term, and Rhodes is only fuelling those hopes with his prowess in front of goal.
Givemefootball’s Ian Clarkson spoke exclusively to Rhodes as he looks forward to continuing his red-hot start at the Galpharm Stadium.
Q: It has been a decent start for the team in the league, hasn't it?
A: It’s been nice to start well and it was a shame that we didn’t get all three points at
Southend last week. It was good to get a home win in the Carling Cup and League and we can look forward to tomorrow night’s game now.
Q: You couldn't have wished for a better start than five goals from your first three games?
A: It has been good to get off the mark but it is only a start. I have to make sure I keep my feet firmly on the ground and doing the things that got me here and what I have done so far. There is still a long way to go this season so I am not going to get carried away.
Q: How did the move to Huddersfield arise?
A: I broke my metatarsal whilst on loan at
Brentford last season and undertook my rehabilitation at Ipswich throughout the summer.
I obviously met Roy Keane and we both thought I would be given an opportunity at Ipswich. The next thing I knew I was off to Huddersfield. I have got no problem with that as Huddersfield is a great club to play for and I am very happy to be here.
