Hartlepool secured a much-needed first win in eight games as they eased past Carlisle 4-1.

At a wind-swept Victoria Park, Pools took a sixth minute lead when Ritchie Jones deftly lobbed keeper Adam Collin from 16 yards.

But Carlisle were on level terms just four minutes later when Matty Robson's cross was headed in by Scott Dobie.

The hosts regained the advantage after 28 minutes. Joe Gamble's left-wing corner was met by Antony Sweeney, who headed past Collin.

Gamble made it three as the half drew to a close when his corner from the opposite flank deceived Collin and curled straight into the net for his first goal for the club.

As Hartlepool continued to attack Jones hit the crossbar after meeting Peter Hartley's pass.

But the winger made the game safe after 75 minutes. After latching onto a through ball from new loan signing Roy O'Donovan he raced past the defence to shoot low into the net.
