Craig Hinton is excited about his new challenge at Northampton and insists he can help the relegated Cobblers to promotion this term.
The former Kidderminster Harriers and
Bristol Rovers defender was snapped up by Stuart Gray on a one-year-deal after receiving a free transfer from the Pirates, and he is after a swift return to League One.
Hinton was disappointed not to be offered a new deal by Rovers, and had a worrying couple of weeks before sorting out his future with
Northampton.
He said: "The aim is to bounce back straight away and League One is where we want to be the season after next. League One is a strong league and there are some very good teams in there so we want to get back there as quickly as possible.
"League Two is a tough league to get out of, but I think with the players we've got here and with the fans behind us we can get promotion.
"I am primarily a centre half and that's where the manager wants me to play. Hopefully I can help organise the players around me and add a bit of experience.
“It's a very young squad at the moment but hopefully by bringing in experienced players like myself and
Steve Guinan we will help push the team forward.
"I think every team will be up for it when they come and play here, as we will be one of the teams they target, but we have got good ability in the squad and we will just have to make that count.”
