After scoring 24 goals for Rotherham last season – to add to the 26 he plundered the previous year – it’s little wonder Adam Le Fondre is one of the hottest properties outside the top two divisions.

Named by his fellow professionals in the PFA Team of the Year for League Two, Adam has already been linked with Championship clubs Derby and Leicester.

Le Fondre continues to be a transfer target for a number of clubs this summer, and Rotherham fans fear the club will not be able to hang on to their prized asset.

Barnsley and Scunthorpe are also said to be among the list of ‘interested clubs’ but Millers manager Andy Scott is prepared to fight tooth and nail to keep hold of his star man.

"There has been an offer but nowhere near our valuation of the player," said Scott. "We don't feel it's a club that he would have been happy going to as well.

“It's inevitable that goalscorers attract attention but I'm sick of managers talking about my players and not talking to me or my chairman. If they've got the money, stump it up but it's going to take a hell of an offer to let him go from this football club.

"He'll be here for the start of the season and hopefully he'll be here for the whole season and beyond."

Although clearly irritated by speculation surrounding Le Fondre, Scott did pay testament to the application of the forward, stating he hasn't had his heard turned by press reports.

"I've not got a bad word to say about the lad," Scott added. "Ever since I've been here he's given me everything he's got and he's fantastic to work with. He's taken everything on board and been brilliant."
