Walsall first-team coach John Schofield had praise for trialist Richie Byrne after he played the entire 90 minutes of the club`s narrow 1-0 defeat to Solihull Moors in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Byrne arrived at the Banks's Stadium on trial earlier this week having been released by League One rivals Oldham due to a hamstring problem.

"It was his first game for a while, but he came in and did all that we asked of him," Schofield told the club`s official website. "He defended in a no-nonsense way and we will make our assessments of him."
