Blackpool were bottom of League One before Saturday's visit to Vale Park but pulled off their first win of the season thanks to one goal from Scott Taylor and a brace from fellow striker Scott Vernon. For Taylor it was his sixth goal in seven games and before Vernon's strike, all of the Seasiders' goal had come from Taylor. Brian Beard spoke to a very happy striker after the game.

Q:ANOTHER GOAL IN THE BAG FOR YOU, YOU MUST BE DELIGHTED?

A:It was more important to get the win really but, yes, the lads are delighted because it's been a long time coming. I think in the previous few games we had deserved something but didn't quite get it - but we did on Saturday so we are chuffed.

Q:IT WAS AN ALL-ROUND OUTSTANDING TEAM PERFORMANCE WASN'T IT?

A:Yes, the workrate was fantastic. We said before the game that we would have to match Vale for effort and it's a big pitch as well so there were some heavy legs out there. We did match them for workrate and we got the goal as well.

Q:THEY SAY THAT DEFENDING STARTS FROM THE FRONT AND THAT WAS A BIG PART OF YOUR GAME PLAN?

A:That's what we have been trying to do in the last few games. The manager has been stressing that it starts from the front and it does, really. If me and Scott can shut them down and not give them much time they can be pressured into giving us second balls.

Q:IT WAS A TYPICAL STRIKER'S GOAL THAT SET BLACKPOOL ON THEIR WAY, YOUR SIXTH IN SEVEN GAMES?

A:Canny Coid got down the right wing and whipped in a great cross and I managed to get in front of the defender to side-foot it into the back of the net. As I said, very pleasing and nice to keep the scoring run going.

Q:YOU MUST BE PLEASED THAT SCOTT VERNON WAS ALSO ON THE SCORESHEET?

A:Definitely, he's come in and he's worked hard and got on the end of things. He's been a bit unlucky in games recently and that will do his confidence a world of good.

Q:AND THIS WIN WILL DO WONDERS FOR THE SPIRIT IN THE CAMP, GENERALLY

A:Absolutely, as I said it's great in the changing room, and the spirit has always been there. We have a good laugh on the training ground, good craic, and it's nice for everything to come together in our performance on match day.

Q:GOOD FOR THE FANS TOO?

A:The fans were fantastic on Saturday, as they have been all season. They were clapping and cheering all through the game and if we can now go and give them a home win that will be even better. Now that we have put three points on the table we can hopefully build on that and start to move away from danger.
