Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy claims manager Nigel Adkins should be given "a lot of the plaudits" after the Iron secured a place in the League One play-off final.

Murphy saved two penalties to seal a dramatic shootout victory over MK Dons and believes his side can survive in the Championship if they beat Millwall at Wembley on May 24.

"I think the manager [Nigel Adkins] deserves a lot of the plaudits," the 27-year-old told the club's official website.

"He's kept us all together - his aim at the start of the season was to get to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final and to win promotion, and we're one step away from that now.

"It's all about the league. We all want to play in better stadiums and hopefully, if we do go up, we can stay there.

"It's a good feeling. Hopefully we will get the right result this time. We've worked hard and I think we deserved it in the end."
