Russell Slade has been rewarded for steering Brighton to League One safety by signing a new two-year contract with the club.

Slade was appointed as manager in March until the end of the season with the Seagulls in dire relegation struggle but, after claiming all but two points from their final five games, they climbed out of the relegation zone and retained their status in the third tier.

And now chairman Dick Knight has handed Slade a contract keeping him at the club for the next two seasons. "Russell has done a fantastic job, pulling off a great escape and I know all Albion fans will agree that he has earned his new contract," Knight told the club's official website.

"He deserves this opportunity to lead us forward.

"His managerial track record and reputation were excellent before he arrived here at Albion and he has significantly enhanced that reputation further."
