Bury defender Efe Sodje is adamant the Shakers will beat rivals Rochdale this weekend in the east Lancashire derby at Gigg Lane.

Neither side come into the contest in much form, with Rochdale still to record a league win under new boss Steve Eyre, while Bury were hammered by Sheffield United last weekend.

However, despite their indifferent form, Sodje has made a bold promise ahead of the derby showdown.

"It's going to be a big test on Saturday, but as I always say we're going to win it," he said.

"I just want it to be a good game, it's not going to be nervy and we will win, simple as that."

Ritchie Barker's first full season in charge has started better than his opposite number's has, with two wins from their opening six league games.

However, with Bury having offloaded last season's talismanic match winner Ryan Lowe on the final day of the transfer window, Rochdale may sense an upset is on the cards, however Sodje believes the loses of Lowe and Damien Mozika must be forgotten if the home side are to prevail.

"Obviously it's going to be a big game because they've not won a game and we've lost our last three games," he added.

"We know it's a massive game and our boys will be ready for it.

"We don't have anything to prove. I think people should try and get the negative thing out of there head that because we've lost [Damien] Mozika and [Ryan] Lowey that we can't perform anymore."
