A consortium headed by former Manchester City player Jim Melrose has agreed terms on a takeover of cash-strapped League One outfit Stockport.

County have been in administration since April 30, 2009 but administrators Leonard Curtis say an agreement has finally been reached with the Melrose consortium.

A statement from Leonard Curtis said: "We can confirm that the administrators have agreed terms with the Melrose Consortium for the sale of the club. As with their previous offer, however, the sale remains conditional upon them reaching agreement with the landlord, Cheshire Sports and the Football League."

The statement continued: "We understand that the next Football League board meeting is scheduled for 11th March. There will be no further statement from Leonard Curtis at this stage."

Gary Ablett's side are rock-bottom of League One with 13 matches remaining.
