Leeds midfielder Peter Sweeney has joined League Two strugglers Grimsby on an initial month-long loan.

Sweeney has struggled to make an impact at Elland Road since joining in January 2008 and will help Mike Newell's side fight relegation from the Football League.

The 24-year-old will go straight into the squad to face Gillingham on Saturday along with former Leeds goalkeeper Jonathan Lund.

Lund was recently released by United boss Simon Grayson and has penned a deal with the Mariners until the end of the season.
