A last-gasp leveller by Hartlepool's Antony Sweeney earned Hartlepool a 2-2 draw against Leeds, who missed out on the chance to draw level with Norwich at the top of League One.

Simon Grayson's men looked set to claim victory after two goals from Luciano Becchio put them ahead either side of Adam Boyd's leveller. But Sweeney powered in a 94th-minute header from close range to earn Pools a share of the spoils.

Argentinian striker Becchio saw a looping header expertly tipped onto the crossbar by Scott Flinders before opening the scoring after 23 minutes.

Leeds won possession in midfield, fed Jermaine Beckford out wide and his deft chip from the right was turned in by Becchio from 12 yards.

Pools improved after the break and Adam Boyd's close-range turn and shot was pushed out by Casper Ankergren before substitute Ritchie Jones saw a shot deflect narrowly wide off Jonny Howson.

Boyd levelled after 71 minutes, cracking in an unstoppable low volley from 20 yards, and Andy Monkhouse could have put the hosts in front only to blaze wide from a tight angle.

Becchio then fired Leeds ahead once again with 12 minutes remaining, tapping in from close range after Lubo Michalik had headed against the bar from a corner.

But Sweeney rescued a deserved point for Pools with a powerful header after Boyd had flicked on a Jones free-kick.
