Tranmere defender Andy Taylor has joined Coca-Cola Championship outfit Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year old joined Rovers in January 2008 from Blackburn after impressing during a loan spell at Prenton Park.

He made 81 appearances for Tranmere and scored three goals but new boss John Barnes is already seeking to make new additions to his squad.

Barnes said: "It was a good offer from Sheffield United and we decided to allow Andy the chance to move to a higher level.

"We're still looking to add to our squad ahead of the season and are talking to a number of clubs about both loan and permanent deals."

Taylor added: "I really enjoyed my time at Tranmere but this move was a great opportunity for me."
