Carlisle have reluctantly agreed to a transfer request from Cleveland Taylor due to personal reasons.

Taylor has made 65 appearances for the Cumbrians, who paid £50,000 in January 2008 for the 25-year-old winger.

Carlisle's managing director John Nixon said: "We have held discussions with Cleveland Taylor over the course of the past few weeks, but we have reluctantly agreed to his request."

Manager Greg Abbott added: "It goes without saying that it came as a big shock to me when he handed the request in. I was very, very reluctant to agree to the request, because people know how highly I regard Cleveland.

"When he is good and ready I would hope that he would feel that he is in a position to explain the reasons behind his decision, but he would prefer it to remain private at the moment.

"At his request we have all agreed not to discuss his reasons any further and I think it's only right and proper for us to respect that."
