Leeds United fans will be disappointed today after news broke that striker Jermaine Beckford has been transfer listed after rejecting a new three-year contract.
The club's leading scorer has 12 months left on his current contract, but Chief Executive Shaun Harvey said: "We always look to retain our most effective players, but only within appropriate financial parameters.
"The offer we made is very good, but he has exercised his right to turn it down. On the basis that he has 12 months remaining on his current contract and could leave on a free transfer next summer, we feel we must consider any offers that are forthcoming for him.
"In the event that no offers are forthcoming or the offers received are unacceptable to us, then he will remain part of Simon Grayson's squad next season."
Beckford has scored 54 goals in 98 appearances for
Leeds since signing from non-league Wealdstone in March 2006.
Millwall
Meanwhile,
Millwall boss Kenny Jackett has promised Lions fans that his side will be amongst the contenders next season despite their play-off final defeat to
Scunthorpe on Sunday.
The Lions threw away a 2-1 lead in front of 45,000 Millwall supporters at Wembley, meaning League One football is still on the agenda next term, but Jackett insists his side will rise again.
He told BBC London 94.9: "We have to make sure we use this strong emotion to come back strongly next year.
"If you're real winners you pick yourself up and you go again. We've got to use that emotion which is extreme disappointment to make us stronger, better, fitter, and hungrier for next year to be successful.
"They've (supporters) come out in their numbers. It shows the potential the club has to be successful and if I can generate that then I'm doing a good job.”
