Championship club Colchester could be playing in a new stadium in just over a year after funding for the project was agreed by the town´s council.

Plans for the proposed 10,000-seater Community Stadium at Cuckoo Farm were originally submitted in 2001, and on Monday night the council removed the final hurdle by unanimously agreeing to borrow the finance needed to build the ground.

Following the vote, chief executive Marie Partner told www.cu-fc.com: "It was absolutely fantastic to hear each speaker make their point, and then hear every one of the politicians give a ´yes´."
