Colchester moved up to third as they bounced back from a draw against bottom-club Stockport to claim a 1-0 win with a workman-like performance on a muddy Yeovil pitch.

The Us went into the game with the incentive of moving above Charlton with three points, and Kayode Odejayi snatched the all-important goal after 38 minutes.

A poor clearance by a Town defender fell to Clive Platt who picked out Odejayi with a neat pass and the giant striker knocked in his ninth goal of the season from 12 yards.

Yeovil had the better chances in the second half, although Colchester dominated possession.

Dean Bowditch shot over on the hour when clean through, and in the 72nd minute Owain Tudur Jones was inches away with a good attempt.

The same player smashed a free-kick into the side-netting with four minutes to go as Colchester dug in.
