Danny Wilson admits Lee Trundle's chances of coming to Swindon depend on Bristol City lowering their asking price after the League One club saw an opening bid rejected for the striker.
A first bid has recently been rejected by their south-west neighbours but, although Wilson remains keen to sign the 32-year-old former Swansea man, he insists he will not be raising his offer to meet City's initial asking price.
"Lee Trundle is someone that has been talked about, but we did ask about him," Wilson told the club's official website. "We asked Bristol City what it would cost and we got an answer. We put our offer to them and it wasn't good enough."
He added: "Until something changes then the deal won't go ahead. He is their player and at this stage the deal's not on. At the moment their valuation of the player is too high for us.
"It has to come from Bristol City's side - but both sides value the player. We feel we have made them a realistic offer within our budget."
