MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman admitted that he was determined to secure the future of manager Roberto Di Matteo after the Italian's remarkable start to his managerial career.

Di Matteo has signed a new contract to keep him at the club until June 2011 after guiding the Dons to second in League One and Winkelman is delighted to have him on board.

He said: "We are delighted with the progress the club has made under Roberto's leadership and extremely excited about what we can achieve together moving forward."

He added: "In his first six months in management, Roberto has proven himself to be a brilliant motivator, an excellent decision-maker and a knowledgeable tactician - three of the numerous qualities that attracted us to him in the summer.

"We feel that stability is of paramount importance in sustaining the growth and progress of this football club, so it is with great pleasure that we make Roberto and his team part of our long-term plans."
