Chris Hargreaves has loved his spell in the limelight as Torquay United have enjoyed huge exposure in the non-league scene.

Regular airings on Setanta Sports have ensured that since their relegation from the Football League back in 2007, the Gulls have enjoyed national exposure.

The year of 2008 was good for publicity but heartbreaking for supporters as they lost in the FA Trophy final to Ebbsfleet and in the play-off semi-finals to bitter rivals Exeter.

However, they bounced back last season and finally ended two years in the football wilderness with a 2-0 win over Cambridge United in the Blue Square Premier League Play-Off Final earlier this month.

One of the goalscorers was Chris Hargreaves and the 37-year-old is enjoying a renaissance at Plainmoor.

The evergreen midfielder has enjoyed 20 years as a professional footballer stopping off at Grimsby, Scarborough, Hull, West Bromwich Albion, Hereford, Northampton, Brentford, Oxford and finally Torquay.

And he is relishing a return to the Football League and the challenges that brings as he looks forward to visiting the likes of Grimsby, Hereford and Northampton once again.

Givemefootball’s Ian Clarkson spoke exclusively to Hargreaves as he looks forward to life back in League Two.
