Notts County's new manager Hans Backe admitted he was a relieved man after Notts County narrowly avoided relinquishing their unbeaten home record to Shrewsbury as his first game in charge ended 1-1.
The Swede has Graeme Lee to thanks for sparing his blushes with a late equaliser, the Magpies captain heading home with five minutes to spare to cancel out Jamie Devitt's first-half opener for the Shrews.
Backe said: "During my entire managerial career I've never lost my first game in charge with any club, but this game against Shrewsbury was the closest I've ever come."
He added: "We had problems in the first half because we couldn't penetrate their defence as we were playing too straight and lost the ball in bad areas.
"Our midfielders were not supporting the strikers well enough and we didn't provide the wingers with enough opportunity to get the ball in the box.
"All credit to the players though because after the interval they looked much stronger, got the ball wide and we created four or five scoring opportunities. It was an intense game to start my Notts County career with, but I enjoyed it and will take a lot of positives from the second-half performance."
