Peter Taylor hopes to extend Lee Hendrie's stay at Bradford until the end of the season.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Hendrie, who signed a short-term deal until early January five weeks ago, was handed the captaincy last week in his seventh appearance and responded with a fine goal in a 3-1 home win over Cheltenham.

Taylor told the Telegraph & Argus: "Lee's contract was basically to give him a little bit of security and some time to show us what he can do. We'd like to keep him longer and if the opportunity comes to stay here for the rest of the season, then I'm sure he will look seriously at it."

He added: "In the meantime, if he carries on doing well that's going to alert other people as well. There's nothing we can do about that.

"But I still maintain Lee is thoroughly enjoying himself here and that's important."
