Former Hereford centre-back Dean Beckwith has signed for Northampton.

Beckwith arrives at Sixfields on an initial one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months having been released by the Bulls at the end of last season.

Town manager Stuart Gray said: "I'm delighted to have secured Dean. He's a good age, has a good amount of games under his belt and is a player who has impressed me."

He continued: "A year ago he was being linked with a move to the Championship and I think the move here will give him a fresh start and hopefully help him kick on.

"There were a few clubs keen on him, so we're pleased to have got him and he's a major signing for us."

The 25-year-old becomes the second player to sign for the Cobblers from Hereford this summer following the departure of striker Steve Guinan.
