Front-runners Brentford extended their lead at the top of Coca-Cola League Two with a 1-0 win at relegation-threatened Grimsby.
The division's top goalscorer Charlie MacDonald netted the winner on 27 minutes to put the Bees four points clear of their nearest rivals.
The result sent Grimsby into the bottom two - allowing Bournemouth, who started the season on minus 17 points, to move out of the relegation zone for the first time after they beat Aldershot 2-0.
Wycombe recovered their form against Chester - Matt Phillips (26) and John-Paul Pittman (66) on target either side of the break to secure a 2-0 win which moved the Chairboys up to second.
They replaced Rochdale, who slumped to a 2-1 defeat at strugglers Barnet, while Bury stayed fourth despite losing 2-1 at home to Chesterfield.
Bradford enjoyed the greatest surge, moving up three places into fifth with a 1-0 win over Macclesfield courtesy of Dean Furman's winner on the hour.
Meanwhile, Exeter and Shrewsbury played out a 1-1 draw, Gillingham could only manage a goaless draw at basement boys Luton, Dagenham & Redbridge lost 3-0 at home to Lincoln and Darlington beat Notts County 1-0.
Elsewhere, Rotherham's match against Morecambe and Accrington's encounter with Port Vale were both postponed because of waterlogged pitches.
