The Football League have given Chester the go-ahead to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan.
First-choice stopper John Danby has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury and boss Mark Wright has no other senior goalkeeper at the club.
"It's a renewable seven-day emergency loan," City owner Stephen Vaughan told the Chronicle.
"If Danby was to get the all-clear, we would have to return the keeper. But if he doesn't, as expected, we'll keep the keeper until the end of the season."
Wright added: "There's loads of keepers out there, it's more a matter of whether they want to come to us because we're in a relegation battle.
"So we need to find someone who not only wants to come here, but who is good enough as well."
