Chester have rejected an approach from League Two rivals Notts County to take top scorer Ryan Lowe on loan.
The striker has hit 13 goals for Chester this season, including one against County in a 2-0 win in December.
And despite ongoing financial problems at the Deva Stadium, Chester chief executive Bob Gray insists they are determined to keep their star player and told the Nottingham Evening Post: "The owner and myself are working hard behind the scene to sort out our current problems, but what we won`t do is loan out one of our leading assets."
He added: "There would have to be an outstanding loan fee offered to even contemplate allowing Ryan to go on a temporary basis."
