James Brent, the outstanding candidate to takeover debt-ridden Plymouth, has given the most positive signs yet that the financial problems at Home Park could be approaching a successful conclusion.

Brent is the forerunner to win the bidding war for the Pilgrims and, although some red lights still remain over the deal, the entrepreneur wants to bring stability to the Devon outfit as soon as possible.

"There is clearly risk still in the process," Brent told the Plymouth Evening Herald. "We're still waiting on approvals from a couple of parties but the indications are very positive. As soon as we can close this transaction we'll close it."

He added: "I've never, thank God, seen staff give up so much to their employer as Plymouth Argyle Football Club staff have and I quite frankly hope I never see that again because it's been a total disgrace."
