On Saturday, Chesterfield entertained bottom club Wycombe Wanderers in the Division Two basement-battle. The Spireites came back from 2-0 down with a couple of goals in the last 15 minutes to earn the point that moved them another place towards safety. Early in the game Chesterfield keeper Carl Muggleton made a crucial save that kept his side in the game. After the 2-2 draw Carl spoke to Brian Beard.
Q:YOU LOOKED DEAD AND BURIED AT 2-0 DOWN?
A:Yes, obviously we have shown a bit of grit and determination and come back into the game. There were a lot of things against us there and the lads have shown a lot of courage to do what they did. It's hard out there and we have a few young lads as well and they have worked hard and got what we deserved in the end.
Q:YOU COULD HAVE BEEN BACK IN IT EARLIER BECAUSE GLYN HURST HAD TWO GREAT CHANCES BEFORE HALF TIME. A LESSER TEAM MIGHT HAVE THROWN IN THE TOWEL?
A:We don't give up and in the dressing room we have a lot of character. People keep going and keep working for each other and I think there is a basic honesty about the squad and it has paid off today. We had a few chances, quite a few throughout the game in fact, and you have to say Wycombe did well in getting plenty of bodies behind the ball and I would imagine they will be disappointed the way they conceded those goals at the end. But on reflection, taking the game as a whole, we probably deserved something out of it.
Q:ARE YOU DISAPPOINTED IN ANY WAY?
A:Only that we really should be beating teams that are down there with us at the bottom, if we are going to get out of trouble. On the other hand we have pulled it back from 2-0 down and gained a point so we have to look at it positively.
Q:DAVID REEVES MADE A DIFFERENCE WHEN HE CAME ON AS A LATE SUBSTITUTE?
A:He does make a big difference for us whenever he comes on. He holds the ball up and has that bit of experience that is invaluable to us. When you are fighting down there you need that bit of experience sometimes to give us a lift and he had some chances as well.
Q:FOR A STRIKER HE PROVIDES PRETTY GOOD SERVICE TOO?
A:Oh yes, all forwards thrive on good service and he put a great cross for Glyn Hurst, as good as the kind of cross he would appreciate himself. If that service isn't forthcoming it can get a bit frustrating at times but you just have to plug away and hope your reward comes. David will get his head down and work towards the team cause as will the rest of the lads and if we fail it won't be for the want of trying.
Q:SO, ONE MORE POINT THAN YOU WOULD HAVE EXPECTED AT 2-0 DOWN?
A:Yes, a point is a good point for us at the minute. Now we just have to work towards the next game and keep battling away.
