Bury manager Alan Knill fears striker Danny Carlton could be in for a lengthy stretch on the sidelines after he sustained an Achilles injury in the 2-0 Carling Cup first-round defeat to West Brom.

The summer capture from Morecambe was forced off midway through the first half and Knill admits he is expecting the worst.

Knill said: "I'm gutted for Danny, it's a bad one."

He added: "Whether we'll be able to bring in a replacement I don't know, as money is tight at the club."
