Peterborough director of football Barry Fry believes Kieran Charnock is 'nuts' for turning down a transfer to League Two Torquay after the clubs agreed a fee this week.

Fry claims the Gulls offered the transfer-listed centre-back a two-year deal on the same wages he receives at London Road, but Charnock rejected the move.

"I've told Kieran that he's nuts to turn the move down. Torquay, who are not big payers as a rule, have really pushed the boat out for him in terms of money and length of contract," Fry told the Evening Telegraph.

"He is perfectly entitled to stay here for another season, but he faces a year without any football. He would be a free agent at the end of next season but who on earth is going to want him when he won't have played for a year.

"I've tried to talk sense into him and so has the manager. At the end of the day we can't force him out of the door, but I am very disappointed as we had negotiated a good deal for him and the club."
